Volunteer Insights – When Robin Boyd Went to Japan

Robin Boyd Went to Japan

Time: 18th February 2024 – 10th March 2024

Venue: Robin Boyd Foundation, Walsh Street/ Boyd House II, 290 Walsh Street, South Yarra, Vic 3141, Australia

Recently, I am honored to have become a volunteer for the Robin Boyd Foundation. While ensuring the best experience for visitors, I am delighted to listen to the analysis, research, and sharing from NMBW Architecture Studio and Philip Goad on Japanese architecture and the photos captured by Robin Boyd at the Osaka EXPO respectively. During the process, I learned about some typical examples of 1950-70s Japanese residential houses, simultaneously felt amazed about the futuristic technology, design and architecture in 1970 Japan through Robin Boyd’s lens.

I particularly appreciate the small modifications to the houses permeating the exhibition and some foldable architectural models. I also look forward to the traditional Japanese crafts workshop. These not only provide a refreshing journey for this historical building but also allow visitors to further immerse themselves in and understand Japanese architecture and culture. The exhibition has about ten days left; can I have the pleasure of meeting you there?
