Working as an architect for several years, as our professional experience grows and we take on greater responsibilities and ethical commitments, we learn risk management. However, this can sometimes cause us to unintentionally restrict our design innovation and braveness. Especially when trying to cater to the majority’s preferences, we often choose to avoid breaking traditional frameworks, thus overlooking the limitless possibilities and plasticity in architectural design.
This year, I had the privilege of volunteering for the Robin Boyd Foundation, where I participated in various activities, including ensuring venue safety, providing with event information, and enhancing the visitors’ experience. These events included When Robin Boyd Went to Japan, Open House/Open Floodplain, and Northcote Houses: LLDS & MA+Co, among others. Through attending lectures, workshops, and architectural tours, I not only rekindled my passion for architecture but also gained fresh design inspiration and expanded my network across different professional fields. Notably, at the 2025 Christmas party, I was delighted to reconnect with other volunteers and enjoy a sunny Christmas lunch in the courtyard of Walsh Street.

在職場工作數年後，隨著我們的工作經驗逐漸累積，並肩負起更多專業操守與責任，我們學會了風險管理。然而，這有時會令我們不經意地遺忘當初學習建築時，那份大膽創新和勇於嘗試的精神。尤其當我們試圖迎合大眾的喜好時，往往會選擇避免打破傳統框架，從而忽視了建築設計中無限的可能性與可塑性。
今年，我有幸成為 Robin Boyd Foundation 的義工，參與不同活動的接待工作，包括確保場地安全和協助活動流程以提升參觀者的體驗。這些活動涵蓋了 When Robin Boyd Went to Japan、Open House/Open Floodplain 和 Northcote Houses: LLDS & MA+Co 等。在參與講座、工作坊及建築遊覽的過程中，不僅重新喚醒了我對建築的熱情，也使我從中汲取了新的設計靈感，更拓展了我與不同專業領域的人脈。尤其是在 2025 年的聖誕派對上，我很高興可以和其他義工敘舊，一同在 Walsh Street 的庭院裏享受陽光下的聖誕午餐。
